A favorite holiday memory of mine was when my whole family would get together and make gifts for our family friends, teachers, and extended family. We used to do everything from crafts (my mom is a crafty person, everything she touches is amazing!) to goodie plates with homemade banana bread, chocolate covered-sprinkle dipped pretzel sticks, and cookies, and other things that had personal meaning to our family.

I remember one year we made M'n'M dispensers, which were really fun! (I even kept one for myself, which I still have ;o) )

Outta my, outta my, outta my head...

Soooo...the semester has been over for a few weeks (YAY!) and I actually did pretty well with my grades. 4 A's, 3 B's, and a C..the C is in theory, but I'm just happy that I passed, because music theory is NOT the easiest class in the school. HAHA

I'm thinking that I'm going to bleach my hair out again...not really liking the whole tri-tone color-scheme that I've got going on, so I think I'll bleach it to platinum blond and go from there. (Most people don't know that I'm a natural blond anyway, just not THAT blond...most people have only seen me with dark hair...)

OMG, my fave fave FAVE a cappella group is going to be in Denver in Feb...sssSSSSSooo excited!!! I'm going to go if it kills me!!

Silent music department hallway?

Yeah, I know...pretty much not possible right? Well it's pretty much true...finals are almost over, most of the students have left, and the only people left here are teachers wishing to be out of here as well. Technically, they can't leave until tomorrow afternoon anyway. HA! (not like I'm leaving to go anywhere like the majority of the students that go to this school...very few are actually from here).

Anyone doing anything exciting for the holidays? I'm not...picking up extra hours working on course packets at work...what fun. (a BIG yeah right on that one...can't you just see my eyes rolling in your mind?)

One of the GA's (graduate assistants) is playing a sax in the office across the hall from where I'm sitting (next to the only plug in the main music department hall where I can actually get an internet signal)...he's quite good, but it's still annoying. If I was the only one here I would definitely play some music, but like I said, there's teachers roaming about just in case the straggling student does happen to come in to chat for one thing or another.

Why am I sitting here waiting in the hallway? I have to retake my piano final, and I'm waiting for the teacher to show up so I can get the heck outta Dodge (in other words, go home and get some sleep before having to come back to campus for work at 3). After this, my finals will be done...yay! That means this semester is over!!!!!!

Ok, so I have juries in two weeks...ick! All the music students have juries during finals week. So we have to perform all the songs that we've been working on this semester...mine are 'Alma Del Core' and 'Wayfaring Stranger'. I am SOOO not ready! Oh, and did I mention that I have two concerts between now and then? Sheesh, I'm ready for this semester to be over already.

Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to take a Pistol Marksmanship course offered on campus through the Army. I think it should be fun, since I like shooting (well not like hunting or anything, I just do it for sport). Still not sure if I'm going to take Written Theory II next semester or just wait and take it again next year.

...but I wanna touch it... ;o)

Anyone want to work on my Italian song for me? I don't wanna anymore... It's not a particularly hard song, but the diction for Italian is throwing me off sooooo bad...like the dental-ized t's (so you say the t's with the tip of your tongue against the back of your top teeth). And rolling R's...I can do it, but doing it in every other word is tough y'all! (HAHA, not meaning to sound all Britney just there...) Failure failure failure...

I HATE that word. Hate HATE hate that word. First of all, who has the right to label someone or something as a failure except the person that is in judgment? I've been judged as a failure all my life, and let me tell you, it's not FUN.

So...I'm failing school. Surprise surprise right? It was bound to happen anyway...just didn't think it would happen when I'm doing something that I love. Guess life has other plans for me and they have nothing to do with music. That just makes me sad. As if being 26 and freshman in college wasn't hard enough... I really don't want to talk to my adviser and tell him that I'm changing majors either, especially when I don't really WANT to change majors, but have to anyway.

I have a concert to attend in an hour that I *really* don't want to go to...it's a faculty recital that will count towards convo credit, but I still don't want to go.

This last week has been pretty hectic for me, and I can't remember half of the things that I've done...midterms are this last week and this next week, so I'm a little brain-fried, if you know what I mean. My midterm in Written Theory is what is going to kill me...I just can't seem to get the hang of key signatures, minor keys and scales, and the circle of fifths. The rhythm is easy for me, but remembering the difference in time signatures is also killing me. I can't seem to keep single/duple/quadruple and simple/triple/compound straight...hopefully the huge study session tomorrow will help. And then I have the huge like 65 question test in Intro to Musical Life where the prof somehow believes we'll be able to finish in 50 minutes even though he wants at least 2 paragraphs for each question...yeah right! He's a nice dude, but he's a little nuts if you ask me.

And come to find out we WILL have juries for Freshman Vocal Seminar (the freshman version of private studio lessons). What? And we're getting assigned an Italian song this next week...not looking forward to that. I've never done an Italian song in my life. Latin, yes. Italian? No. I don't even like my own voice...so how in the heck am I supposed sing in front of a panel of 5 professors and have them critique the songs we've been "working on" (which we haven't really been doing in FVS...I've sung my song ONCE in the two months we've been in classes)? Oh well...time to buck up I guess.

At least I'm doing seemingly OK in class piano. I don't particularly LIKE it, but I'm not doing horrible either. Guess that's a good thing. I just wish it came to me naturally, but it doesn't. I have to practice like a nazi to 'get' things for that class. Still having problems with the 5 finger patterns going up the major scales (and now we're adding ALL the scales from C major up an octave to C major). Oh well. And now we're starting to learn the pedal...I have plenty of hand-eye coordination, but I can not get pedaling down to save my life. HAHA

I have two choir concerts in the next two weeks (they're within a week of each other...for different choirs). At least we only have to have like 2 of the pieces memorized. 2 out of 10 or 12 isn't bad. I can live with that. And our dresses are all backordered, so we have to provide our own all black outfits for the concert...NOT happy about that, since we're already spending $72 for the dresses, and now I have to go out and BUY an outfit just for two nights? Ridunkulous if you ask me. But whatever...at least I already have black character shoes, those suckers are EXPENSIVE. Worth it by far, but still expensive.

So yesterday I performed in my Freshman Vocal Seminar class...only did about 2 and a half of the 6 pages of the song, but that's ok. A few people said I did pretty well, but you know me, I never think I do well enough. One suggestion that one of the professors said was that I need to work on vowel notation. And yeah, I agree with her.

Anyway...I'm sitting here outside listening to the leaves on the trees rustling in the breeze waiting for Women's Choir. They're having some sort of welcome seminar thing in the auditorium where we have choir rehearsal, so who knows if we're actually having class today. The weather's nice though, so I don't mind waiting outside. At least it's not as cold as it was this morning...BRRRRR.
