Patriotic Duty?

it's a patriotic duty to question the powers that be.

I found this in a comment on Karen's blog...and though that I would blog my two cents on the subject.  A very wise and smart man once told me that if we didn't like the things that our government was doing or how they were spending our money, or laws they were passing or whatever, that it was OUR OWN FAULT.  I agree completely.  I'm not saying that I hate government, or I think government is evil or whatever.  I love this country, and I love the freedoms that we have.  BUT, this country is run by a government that is of the people, by the people, and FOR the people.  In other words, if you don't like what's going on, YOU CAN CHANGE IT!  To me, that's what Obama is trying to do!  If you don't like what your city council is doing, by all means, run for city council...that is how you change things and make a difference.  If other people agree with the need for change, they'll elect you.  Simply put.  That is what is so great about our government.  If you don't like something, you CAN do something about it.  The system was DESIGNED THAT WAY.  I am thankful that our founding fathers knew what they were doing in drafting our Constitution...it's just too bad that a lot of politicians try to skew the words and meaning into their own point of view for their own persona gain.

(by the way, the man that said that was my US Government teacher...very sarcastic, brash, honest, intelligent, and FUNNY man...right Court?)

I agree with changing thing, but We disagree on how things should be changed. My ideal president would be Sarah pallin. I'm up for getting fid of a lot of goverment thigns that are unnecessary, and making more check and balances on people who are getting hand outs (a lot really take advantage, and I see people who do). sorry, but I disagree with Obama (but you already knew that)

I do agree with more checks and balances, but if that were the case, Sarah Palin would be the first person I would want more checks and balances put in place on. To me, $150,000 on a new wardrobe for clothes that she'll probably only wear once is a little ridiculous. Oh, and don't forget the hundreds of conferences that she attended all over the country while she was governor of Alaska that she just HAD to fly her girls (and their friends!!) with her, having their own suite, their own car, etc etc. THAT, to me, is excess spending. She is NOT the woman I want to represent me as a woman in this country. *shrugs* But that is what this country is about, everyone voting for who THEY believe represents THEM the best. :o)
